Meji Shrine

Meji Shrine

A Shinto shrine in Shibuya, Tokyo dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shōken. Located inside a forest the shrine spreads over 700,000 square-meters. The two main areas of Meji Shrine is Naien and Gaien. The inner precinct surrounding the shrine buildings has a treasure museum built in the Azekurazukuri style containing articles of the Emperor and Empress. The outer precinct known as the Gain includes the Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery having a collection of 80 large murals depicting events from the lives of the Emperor and his consort.
